What is flat feet? »Its Definition and Meaning [2019]

Flat feet (also called pes planus or fallen arches) are a postural deformity in which the arch of the foot collapses , with the entire sole of the foot coming into full or almost complete contact with soil .Some individuals (20-30% of the general population) have an arch that simply never develops on one foot (unilateral) or on both feet (bilaterally).

There is a functional relationship between the structure of the arch of the foot and the biomechanics of the lower leg.The arch provides an elastic connection between the forefoot and the back foot. This association protects from so, most of the forces incurred during foot weight loading can dissipate before the force reaches the long bones of the leg and thigh.

In the flat foot, the head of the talus bone is displaced medially and distally from the navicular. As a result, the ligament The spring and tendon of the posterior tibial muscle are stretched , so much so that the individual with the flat foot loses the function of the medial longitudinal arch (MLA).Whether the MLA is absent or not It works both in a sitting position and in a standing position, the individual has a "rigid" flat foot.If the MLA is present and functional while the individual is sitting or standing on the toes, but this arch disappears when assuming a posture flat-foot, the individual has a "flexible" flat foot. This last condition can be corrected with well-adjusted arch supports .

Three studies of military recruits have shown no evidence of increase subsequent injuries or problems with the feet due to flat feet in a population of people who reach the age of military service without previous foot problems, however, these studies cannot be used to judge possible future damage of this condition when It is diagnosed at a younger age. They also cannot be applied to people whose flat feet are associated with symptoms of the feet or certain symptoms in other parts of the body (such as the leg or back) that may refer to the foot.
