Radix is a term used to describe the number of digits used in a positional number system before "passing" to the place of the next digit.For example, in the base 10 number system , a total of 10 digits (from zero to nine) are used, therefore its root is 10.In the base 2 number system, two numbers are used (zero and one), so its radix is two.Words that are synonyms for radix are base and root, in the arithmetic sense.
