Definition of synarthrosis - What it is, Meaning and Concept

The first thing we are going to do to be able to clearly understand the meaning of the term synarthrosis is to know its etymological origin.In this sense we can say that it is a word that derives from the Greek, because it is the result of the sum of three components of said language:-The prefix "without-", which is synonymous with "together" or "with".-The noun "arthron", which can be translated as "articulation".-The suffix "-osis", which is used to indicate training or conversion.

Synarthrosis is the name that receives that joint that lacks movement .It should be remembered that, in the field of anatomy , an articulation is the link that exists between one bone and another or between a bone and a cartilage.

The joints, therefore, join different elements of the skeleton and allow the development of mechanical movements .It is possible to classify the joints in different ways: when are classified according to their function , the concept of synarthrosis arises.

In this sense, a synarthrosis is a joint without mobility.That joint whose movements are limited is known as amphiarthrosis , while joints with greater range of motion are called diarthrosis .

About amphiarthrosis, it is also worth knowing that there are two different types that need to be known.In particular, it is established that when there is hyaline cartilage between the bones, these joints will respond to the name of synchondrosis and that when what exists is fibrocartilage they call symphysis.

Synarthrosis joins bones through a fibrous tissue .Its mobility, thus, is established from the length of the fibers of this tissue.Synarthrosis can be found in the skull , joining the temporal, frontal, occipital and parietal.

A synarthrosis lacks joint cavity and synovial capsule.Without having movement or only being able to develop very limited movements, its function is usually linked to protection and to serve as support of ligaments and muscles.Synarthrosis is also considered the point that allows the growth of the bones .

Depending on the support tissue and the type of union, synarthrosis can be divided into symphibrosis , syostosis or synchondrosis .Specifically, we can determine that symphibrosis can also be divided into several types depending on what are the edges of the joint joint:-Squamous symphibrosis synarthrosis, which is determined by the fact that those edges appear of bevel.-Syntarthrosis, dentate symphibrosis, which, as its name indicates, is the one that occurs when the aforementioned articular edges are jagged.a groove is involved, it enters the other bone.-Harmonic symphibrosis synarthrosis, which is characterized because the edges of the joints are rough.-Symphibrosis gonfosis synarthrosis, in which the edges give shape to a kind of cavity.
