Meaning of Seminar (What is it, Concept and Definition)
What is a Seminary:
A seminary, in its oldest sense, is a teaching center in which religious formation is given to the presbyters or priests of the Catholic Church.The word comes from Latin seminarium , which means 'seedbed'.
A seminar is also used to refer to a permanent academic department that focuses on the specialized study of a research area, in which they are designed study and analysis practices.For example: "Philosophy Seminar of the National University".
Research seminar
It is known as research seminar a a set of sessions and coordinated academic activities to know the advances of research within a certain specialty, whether scientific or humanistic.This type of seminars includes activities such as lectures, lectures, conversations, forums and cultural activities that provide spaces for improvement professional and for the meeting between professional peers.
These activities or sessions can be short-term or systematic.We say that a seminar is short-term when it refers to an event that concentrates in a few days different activities to disseminate progress in an area determined, generate new debates and establish new opportunities for strategic research alliances, whether at the regional, national or international level.For example, the “International Seminar of Integral Education SIEI, of Mexico”.
Some of these initiatives can eventually become spaces for continuous training that, by gathering similar characteristics (talks, presentations, conversations) but extending indefinitely, become permanent seminars .
There are also research seminars integrated into curricular training plans both in bachelor's degrees as specializations, masters and doctorates With an approximate duration of one semester or year, this type of seminars has the purpose of accompanying the development of the research work of the candidates for qualification, so they become spaces to measure, evaluate, correct, deepen and improve the projects.
