Definition of bone - What it is, Meaning and Concept

Bone is a term originating in the Latin ossum .The concept allows naming the hard pieces that form the skeleton of the vertebrates .For example: "I fell off the motorcycle yesterday and broke a bone" , "A player suffers a terrible fracture exposed and it is left with a bone in the air ”, “ My grandmother always complains about bone pain ”.

Bones are mostly made up of bone tissue (a special type of connective tissue formed by cells and calcified components) and have covers of cartilages , vessels , nerves and others elements.

In the human being , the bones have a great capacity for regeneration and reconstitution, fulfilling important functions in the protection of vital organs (such as the heart or the brain ) and allowing the movement of the body (since it forms the musculoskeletal system).


When used in the plural, the term may mention the mortal remains of a person : “His bones were transferred to the cemetery of his hometown ", " The singer had requested that, after his death, his bones be housed in the family vault ".


The notion of bone is also used to name the hard part in the center of some fruits that the seed contains .In this case, bone can be synonymous with carozo : "Be careful with olives, which have bone" , "Do not go choking on the sour cherries" .


That which causes a lot of work or that is uncomfortable can be defined as bone: "The opponent will be a hard nut to crack" , "And now that are we going to do with this bone? ”.

Among the causes of bone diseases are infections, poor nutrition, genetic problems and cancer.Here are some of the most common disorders that directly affect the skeleton:


Osteoporosis
