What is a paper jam?(What is, Concept and Definition)
A paper jam is a term used to describe when paper or other printed matter is jammed or lodges in a printer and cannot be ejected.When this occurs, the printer will not function properly.until the paper is removed manually.
Causes of a paper jam
A paper jam may occur due to any of the following reasons.
- Dirty paper rollers inside the printer.
- Wet paper.
- Paper with corners with dog ears or torn edges.
- Too much paper in the paper tray.
- The paper pushed too far into the printer's top-loading paper tray.
- The rear panel of the printer is not connected properly or is completely closed.
How to avoid a paper jam
Here are some ways to avoid a paper jam in a printer.
- Make sure the printer paper is not damp and is kept in a dry place.
- Using compressed air or an air compressor, gently blow out any dust, dirt, or small pieces of paper from inside the printer.
- Remove the back panel of the printer and clean any residue, such as shredded pieces of paper.
- Do not load the paper tray completely full of paper.Fill approximately 1/2 to 3/4 to avoid overloading.
- If the printer has a top-loading paper tray, gently place the paper in the tray until you feel resistance.Do not force the paper or push it into the printer.
