Opening concept - Definition
Inauguration is the act but also the effect of inaugurating, a verb from the Latin “inaugurare”, a word integrated by the inclusion prefix “in”, and by “augure” in the sense of “growing”.In Rome ancient, when opening a new temple the augurs were summoned, priests who were dedicated to the divination, so that the sponsorship of the gods was requested so that it blessed and offered protection to the site that would begin to work.
Currently the inauguration also has a symbolic but not necessarily religious character, and it is the official ceremony that takes place when a new building that has social, lucrative or free functions, begins its functions, to give a formal start to its activities, generally making a ribbon cut, giving speeches by the authorities or representative people, and placing reminder plates; or when a statue or other significant monument is located, or a highway or a bridge is inaugurated, and it is desired to celebrate the completion of the work and its placement in the place where it will remain, also being able to wear evocative plaques.
That moment of the inauguration will be the one taken into account to celebrate each anniversary, a new “birthday” of the inaugurated entity or work.
Examples: “The city government has inaugurated two hospitals that are equipped with the most modern technology”, “More schools should be inaugurated if you want to have a more educated society”, “A football stadium was inaugurated and I celebrate a friendly party to celebrate the event ”,“ They opened a new branch of the foreign Bank and the traditional ribbon cutting ceremony was held.”
Other openings refer to games that have significance for building friendship ties between nations such as the Olympic Games, which were held in London in 2012, had their inaugural ceremony on Friday, July 27 and was held in the London Olympic Stadium: the official opening was in charge of Queen Elizabeth II; flags were raised, speeches were delivered, there was an artistic show called "Wonderful Islands" and athletes parade.
It also applies to any new and unprecedented private event: "Inaugurate my new house and invite all my friends to celebrate" or "I will inaugurate a new stage in my life, now as a single."
