A play is a live representation of a text consisting of characters, dialogues and actions, all intended to be carried out by actors. While it is a literary genre, there are works that they are adaptations of non-theatrical texts.

Those who create plays are known as playwrights and, although they generate the base, the work is completed with elements such as music, scenery, costumes, lights and others to keep the public captive.

There are authors who dedicated their work to plays, such as the English playwright William Shakespeare , perhaps the most famous in this type of literature, although his works can also be read and not only represented.

In a play the actors interpret the characters arranged by the playwright

A play presents stories that are developed within an environment and timeline that is understood by the dialogue as well as for other elements of the representation and, which complete it as such.

Another way to refer to a play is dramatic literature, placing it as a clear genre within written art .Although it is an artistic representation different from a book or poem, it does not have its own space within the so-called fine arts being included next to literature.

The first plays date from Ancient Greece and were part of the entire history of mankind, developing new nuances and adjusting to the artistic styles of the time, although there are timeless classics that resist the passage of the centuries.

The plays can be classified into various genres , highlighting comedy, melodrama, tragedy, farce, tragicomedy, etc.In the last century, musical plays entered strongly, earning a place where they mix written, interpretive and musical art.

The same play can be represented in different ways according to the adaptations made by the playwrights , so classics are taken to current times without losing their essence, but clearly differentiating themselves from their original representation.p>

Unlike a movie, every play will have modifications, whether large or small, depending on what happens on stage , so actors must resort to improvisation.

A play should not necessarily be written, but there is the improvisational theater , either completely or at least in an important part of the performance. These types of works are less common and They are not usually seen in popular theater.

Each culture has its own theater in which it prints its distinctive characteristics. There are also theater styles related to a particular artistic period or style, or representations based in part on other works.
