Definition of revelation - What it is, Meaning and Concept
Revelation is a term that has its etymological origin in the Latin word revetĭo .This can be said to be the result of the sum of three clearly defined Latin elements such as these :-The prefix "re-", which can be translated as "backwards".-The noun "velum", which is synonymous with "veil".-The suffix "-cion", which is used to indicate action and effect.
This is the act and the result of revealing (telling something that was secret , making the hidden visible, anticipating a future event).
For example: "The revelation of the singer surprised the journalist" , "After the revelation of the secretary of the senator, there was a great scandal" , “I had a revelation in a dream: Germany will win the next World Cup” .
Reveal can be associated with unveiling or reporting something that was not known .Suppose a marriage adopts a baby.Years pass and parents never tell the child that he was adopted: in this way, the boy grows up thinking that he is a biological son of his parents. However, when he turns 18 years, parents decide to tell him the truth .Thus, telling him his true origin is a revelation for him.
The idea of revelation is often used in the context of religion .In this case, it is described as revelation to what a divinity or a supernatural being informs the human being when it is not available of that knowledge. In Catholicism, the Arcangel Gabriel is responsible for informing Maria that she will be the mother of Jesus , the son of God .This revelation is also known as an announcement.
Specifically, within the scope of religion there is talk of what is called divine revelation, which becomes the manifestation that God himself has made to men not only about their existence but also about another series of truths and circumstances that establish that they are really necessary for them to achieve eternal salvation.
Within the Catholic religion, that meaning of revelation is established and it is determined, in the same way, that said manifestation can be found in “The Bible” and also in religious tradition.Specifically, it is determined that in those “ Sacred Scriptures ”determine aspects such as these:-Jesus proceeded to entrust the revelation to the Catholic Church who is the one who can bet to guard it, teach it and also proceed to interpret it.-In them it is determined that the revelations can be developed in the form of dreams, of visits of angels and even visions. However, most of those who have had the key figures of the Church have been presented in the form of whispers by the Holy Spirit.-The revelations help strengthen the testimony, to meet certain needs and even find answers to questions.
In the field of sport and art , on the other hand, it is described as revelation aa something new that causes a great impact. That is why it is said that a player, an artist or an album, to name a few possibilities, are revelations: "The young Swiss striker was the revelation of the tournament" , "The Spanish took the prize for the best actress revelation" .
